Greek Orthodox Icon of Christ
Subject
Devotional Images
Description
The Greek Orthodox Church's icons are visual representations of God, saints, and various scenes from the Bible. The tradition of creating Christian images can be traced back to the 3rd century, whereas the iconic Greek Orthodox image can be traced back to the 5th century. The style of Orthodox Christians icons is unique since almost all icons are two-dimensional allowing artists to paint their icons slightly abstract. The stylistic choice is designed to remind followers of the Church of God's presence because the icon itself is not literal.
